Consultation Document: Better
Health, Better Care: A Discussion
The government wants to help people to sustain and
improve their health, especially in disadvantaged communities, ensuring
better, local and faster access to health care. We therefore need
to work in a coordinated way across Government to adapt and reinforce
our traditional values of care, community and public service to
meet the challenges facing our country. This requires a health service
that works together with its partners, places the patient at the
heart of everything it does, integrates care, realises efficiencies
and ensures the highest standards of quality and safety.

Consultation Document: Refresh
of Adult Literacy and Numeracy in Scotland (ALNIS) Report
The Executive intend to consult on the production
of a ‘refresh’ of the Adult Literacy and Numeracy (ALNIS)
strategy. Background The Scottish Executive’s strategy for
Adult Literacy and Numeracy was outlined in the Adult Literacy and
Numeracy in Scotland (ALNIS) report published in 2001. The report
set out the challenges for Scotland, made recommendations to overcome
these and set targets with the vision of exceeding world-class levels
of adult literacy and numeracy. ALNIS aimed to double the number
of learning opportunities for those with literacy and numeracy needs
within three years and improve the quality of local provision. The
purpose of the consultation is to explore the emerging key themes,
to allow us to develop a new ALNIS Strategy which will set a vision
to 2011.
