General Medical Council in Scotland: As a UK wide body, the General Medical Council regulates all doctors registered in Scotland. They are set up by law to carry out four key functions. Regulation of doctors is a reserved power. Policy is therefore led and set by the Department of Health in Whitehall and legislation considered in Parliament at Westminster. However, with increasingly divergent health structures and health policy across the UK, the GMC has established offices in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland to respond effectively to devolution and contribute to ensuring regulation remains appropriate in each part of the UK.

Scottish Health Council: The Scottish Health Council is a new body set up by the Scottish Executive to ensure that the views of patients and the public are properly taken into account by Health Boards.

European Union Health Portal The Health-EU Portal is directed at those who want to keep informed about issues affecting their health, and at those who wish to keep up to date with policies and decisions taken at European, national and international level. The Portal is also an important source of information for health professionals, administrations, policy makers and stakeholders. It is accessible to everyone, including older people and people with disabilities, as it follows the internationally recognised rules on accessibility. The Portal also provides expert users with access to statistical databases relevant to public health.
