So, what is policy? Policy is a strategic statement of intent (in
this instance) by government, political parties, parliaments, assemblies,
and government departments. Policies show the strategic direction
that these organisations intend to go in dealing with a specific
issue e.g. dealing with homelessness. Policy is important to understand
for several reasons as it allows organisations to understand how:
• The government of the day is thinking strategically and
its intentions for policy direction in the future
• To inform their Board / Trustees on how to use policies
that fit with their objectives to their advantage
• To enable effective organisational planning for the long
term
• Most importantly to help the people we serveValuing Our Voluntary Sector: Our new guide for
all elected members, giving you the low down on the sector in West
Dunbartonshire and how we can assist you to engage and participate
