Research & Intelligence

A key role of the CVS is in the collection and use of research and information. Having access to the most up-to-date information is vital for voluntary and social economy organisations.

Research & Information is the bedrock of organisations in the voluntary sector, it allows organisations to:

• Make the case for their existence
• To inform their Board / Trustees
• To enable effective organisational planning
• Most importantly to understand the people we serve.

Additionally, the gathering of research and information allows us to inform statutory agencies as well other bodies about who we are, what we do, and why we do it! It is also a useful tool for marketing, financial planning as well as fundraising. Checkout ThinkCVS for the research & consultancy services we can provide for you and your organisation.

What's in it for the voluntary & community sector?
Research is often associated with academia (Universities, educational insitutes etc), this is for good reason. Universities and similar organisations have both the resources and range of skills that make their input to research invaluable. Academia, therefore offers the voluntary sector the opportunity to learn from their valuable skills and approaches to research; such as improving our understanding of appropriate research methods & methodological approaches, confused check our terminology sub-section.

Remember to take the opportunity to look through our sub-sections where you will find out more about our approach to research & information as well as the research services we can provide. We are currently moving towards adoption of the Social Research Association's Ethical Guidelines and working towards the Economic & Social Research Council's (ESRC's) Research Ethics Framework
