MV Awards provide recognition for young volunteers aged 16-25 years old with awards being presented after 50 and 100 hours of volunteering. The special Award of Excellence is presented for volunteering 200 hours; all of the MV Awards are endorsed by the Scottish Executive.

MV Volunteering Passport

The MV Volunteering Passport goes live today,19th September! If you're aged 16-25, and want to make a difference, then volunteer and get recognised for it Developed by Volunteer Development Scotland, the MV Volunteering Passport is a free personal resource for young volunteers aged 16 to 25, where they can record, track and reflect on their volunteering experience. MV Awards are issued after volunteering 50,100 and 200 hours and are endorsed by the Scottish Executive. Offering benefits to young volunteers and the organisations they volunteer with, young people can register now by visiting
MV Volunteering Passport.

The MV Volunteering Passport is an extension of the MV Awards, a free national awards scheme open to all 16 to 25 year old volunteers in Scotland. The awards are presented at 50 hours, 100 hours and at 200 hours, signed by Scottish Executive ministers and supported nationwide by the Volunteer Centre Scotland Network and Volunteer Development Scotland (VDS). With the MV Volunteering Passport you can:

• Record your hours and claim your 50, 100 and 200 hour MV Award certificates
• Search for volunteering opportunities
• Capture your own personal volunteering journey
• Share your volunteering stories with other MV volunteers

The Award Structure:

FIFTY HOURS AWARD: This award is signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Development John Swinney MSP

ONE HUNDRED HOURS AWARD: This award is signed by the Cabinet Secretary for Finance & Sustainable Development John Swinney MSP

TWO HUNDRED HOURS AWARD OF EXCELLENCE: This award is signed by the First Minister of Scotland Alex Salmond MSP

All Millennium Volunteers have 2 years from the date they start their volunteering to work towards an Award.

How do I register for an Award?
If you are interested in finding out more about a variety of volunteering opportunities in your local community, please contact the Youth Development Advisor on 0141 941 0886 Extension 118 or
e-mail us. We will arrange a time to meet you to talk about Millennium Volunteer opportunities of in West Dunbartonshire.

What if I’m already volunteering?

If you are currently volunteering in West Dunbartonshire or you know someone who is eligible for the MV Award then volunteering hours can be backdated. To register for the Award contact 0141 941 0886 Extension 118 or e-mail us. Remember that while volunteering and working towards an MV Award you:

• can build your confidence
• Meet new friends
• Try something new and learn new skills
• Make a positive difference to your local community
• Gain experience which may help you enter college or university
• Take advantage of training opportunities
• It’s a great addition to your CV

Some of the MV Award volunteer opportunities available


• Sports Coach –working with children in a variety of sports and activities for West Dunbartonshire Sports Development
• Animals – grooming and caring for animals at Knowetop Farm in Dumbarton
• Delivery Collection - To assist with the safe collection and delivery of furniture and household goods throughout West Dunbartonshire with Home from Home
• Retail Assistant – work with a furniture recycling project to help make up starter packs for new households
• Tutors -work with child or adult learners developing literacy and numeracy skills. Tutors work, within a group setting, with two or more students. Being able to build the learners confidence while tutoring is essential with CLAN.
• Kitchen Assistant- doing duties such as cutting vegetables, cleaning and serving the public on occasion. There is also the chance to be put through your Health and Hygiene Certificate with a community café in Faifley.
• Play worker with a local out of school care group in Clydebank. This opportunity is a good chance to incorporate arts and music with kids in small groups. It would be good experience for anyone wanting to get into teaching or children’s work.
