WDCVS also supports several environmental projects including litter picks in partnership with Scottish Canals and a community allotment space in partnership with Dalmuir Plots Association. Both projects aim to increase awareness of the environment and offer supported volunteering opportunities for everyone to get involved.
Q: When do the litter picks happen?
The litter picks happen three times a week. Our team of volunteers cover two areas of the Forth and Clyde canal walkway stretching from Linnvale to Dalmuir. This work is done in partnership with Scottish Canals and is supported by the BAA Flightpath Fund.
Q: Who can get involved?
Anyone with an interest! We have specific opportunities for litter pick leaders who can act as the main support for the clean-up sessions. Alternatively, if you just want to get involved and help you are very welcome.
Q: Do I need to make a regular commitment?
We ask that you think about giving a regular weekly commitment particularly if you are a litter pick leader.
Q: Do I need any special equipment?
Just clothing and footwear suitable for the weather conditions. We supply everything else you will need.
Q: I’m not as mobile as I used to be – can I still get involved?
Yes you can. The canal pathways are good and suitable for walking and wheeling.
Q: How do I get involved in the community allotment?
Get in touch and we can chat this through with you. The allotment is a new venture so we are looking for experienced/enthusiastic gardeners to help us shape what we can do.
